This morning, on CNN Student News, they talked about the environmentally unlucky island of Haiti. Recently, after already experiencing an earthquake and an outbreak of Cholera, they were hit by a hurricane known as Tomas. Talk about unlucky, right?
Well..tell me. Why is the news always talking about relief efforts in Haiti if we aren't really helping them. All we're doing is filling their hearts with hope when we say we'll help, and then completely crush that hope when we actually don't do a thing to help them out. Even some of the locals have told newscasters that they didn't appreciate us coming down their and falsely stating that we would help, and not doing much at all.
Mikal
They may be complaining that we don't help them, but i think we still are helping them maybe not as much as we or they would like, but the only reason they feel ungrateful is because they were expecting a quicker and better resolution.Aaron
ReplyDeleteso true i do not see what is the point of saying we are going to help when don't. Countries only say they will just so they can feel beter about themselves. now hatians are mad because we go over there and don't do a thing to help. We are only there to be nosey and make ourselves look good.
ReplyDeleteaaron i know we help but they are not getting all the help we claim to give them.

I think they're in such bad condition they dont realize what help we do for them. We are making differences little by little. And also i think if they are complaining so much they should help themselves also because they hcant just sit around waiting for us to make a change.-Julien
ReplyDeleteI say just like it's taking New Orleans a while to rebuild Haiti is going to take longer because the economy is so bad. It is a beautiful country with proud people who when ask for help they expect it. There are children living literally in cardboard boxes. You think that when we say we are going to help and don't they are going to say O'well. NO. They aren't and I don't blame them. If we as Americans are helping why is there an outbreak going on. Medical supplies is apart of relief. When the earthquake hit the most evident thing needed besides food and shelter was healthcare.
ReplyDeleteFair enough however at least we are doing something, and maybe not now since this has been going on since January, and we are already a nation in debt so 1 nation damaged by the environment and financially is better than 2 by financial devastation which will happen if we helped as much as we say we are
ReplyDeleteJuilen we help them little by little but with all the disaters that little bit of work is not doing a thing
ReplyDeleteTo me maybe we are helping as best as we can but there not showing that because i dont care how much u watch the news there always showing bad things never all that good i mean yes we prolly can help more but at the same time its the like that saying "you cant help someone to you help yourself" so first we got to try to make us better then help someone else so first we cant give all of our help to hati to we help us first.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you said. I watched CNN student news also and saw all of the damage the hurricane caused them. I hear about all of these efforts to help Haiti, but it does not look like anything has been done to help them. One of the men that was interviewed said that he was tired of them taking advantage of the people of Haiti. I really hope that something will really be done to help and that nothing bad will come to Haiti any time soon.
ReplyDelete@ Ghalle well that still doesnt mean they cant appreciate what we do
ReplyDeleteaaron so why is ammerica saying they are do all this great things for them we we can barely do a thing for ourselves.
ReplyDeleteIn a sense, how are we helping them at all? All we are doing as Americans is giving them a false sense of security by telling them we are doing all we can to help them...when in fact, we're just sitting in our homes, waiting on a "new" news update and saying, "Oh. I'm so sorry that happened." or "You poor people! I feel so sorry for you!" Pity isn't helping at all and the Haitians do not appreciate it in the least.
ReplyDeleteSo America, if you really want to help, shouldn't you actually get your butts down there and start assisting them? Get off your high pedastools and do what you told them you would do. GOSH!
~Mikal
there is nothing happening their lives are still in a bad condition and there are diseases going around don't nobody want to go over to help when their health is at risk
ReplyDeleteAaron were you replying to me? You are right Ghalee because the food we supply them is not nearly enough they need. I also agree that they need to help themselves, but they can't get a plane ticket, boat ticket, or anything else to get off the devastated island. The main income was tourism. The government is corrupt, I haven't seen the government officials in Haiti starving. Where are their homes? Why don't they use their homes as refuges?
ReplyDeletei personally beleive that there should be an international law that says nations that are heavily damaged by nature with no way of supporting themselves should get like 2% of the total income of the richest nations(or at least the ones who can survive that kind of financial damage)
ReplyDelete@ GHALEE well its still good to try...
ReplyDeletekayla of course they can not go anywhere they are poor and no one wants to help bring them over to any country
ReplyDeleteaaron i like that idea
ReplyDeleteAaron when you said " Fair enough however at least we are doing something, and maybe not now since this has been going on since January, and we are already a nation in debt so 1 nation damaged by the environment and financially is better than 2 by financial devastation which will happen if we helped as much as we say we are."
ReplyDeleteWho were you responding to?
@ kayla so what you are trying o say is that its not good to try. and even if we send one meal thats one life saved.
ReplyDeleteGhalee that is my point. My question is; How are they supposed to pick up the pieces if they have no where to go?
ReplyDeleteGhallie we are saying we are doing so much to make our public image better to more sophisticated countries even though it would be more effective to help us and then them, and Kayla i was not replying to u
ReplyDeletemike of course all they show is the bad things because there are barely any countries who really put forth the effort to help them
ReplyDeleteI am not saying that at all Julien. What I am saying is we are making an effort with food and shelter, but these people have diseases that are getting worse if we don't send the medical help they need
ReplyDeleteI think we need to look at it their point of view because they were just recovering from an earthquake and now they were hit with hurricane.
ReplyDeleteMost of them have already lost hope and they are mad because of news reporters coming over to broadcast how badly it over there.Matt
Kayla i was responding to Ghalee at the time
ReplyDeleteaaron so true i believe even if we make ourselevs look good everyone know we are not doing anything to help them
ReplyDelete@Julien, I think that if we were helping them a lot that they would recognize it and be thankful. The only reason that they are complaining so much is because people say that they are going to help and don't. I also think that they are doing the best they can, but they also need help from others to get back to where they were before.
ReplyDeleteI like what you said mikal because that is true bt what you saying i feel like is going at everyday people because i kno a bunch of people that do exactly what you saying because they cant do none and at time the same time i feel like sometimes you sending and building things aint enough sometimes all people need is care, love, support, and prayer
ReplyDeleteso true the news reporters from the different countries are only being nosey
ReplyDeleteWe are kind of stuck in the middle of a difficult choice because if we help ourselves people say we are selfish, and america cares about its international image, but if we help haiti we are hurting ourselves so its like pick your poison
ReplyDeleteI don't get why newsreporters report the news, but do nothing to make the situation better sometimes. I would talk to the people and see what needs to be done. There are people stuck under rubbish, buildings, trapped underground, and dead. Lets start cleaning up the cities, feeding, and tending to the sick because Haiti is on its way up just like New Orleans
ReplyDeleteI agree with you somewhat. I mean, many Americans have worked very hard to help out the very unfortunate Haitians by donating money, food, tents, and medical supplies. But, over the pass year, Haiti has been through disater after disater, and they are even deeper in the hole of poverity and despair than ever before. Plus, even before the devestation of the earthquake and the hurricane, Haiti has been the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. I don't believe we should give people false hope, but I believe those people who are helping out are genuine in their intent to bring relief to Haiti.- Harris
ReplyDelete@Michael
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. These people really do need care, love, support, and prayer. But they also need cures and relief from the flooding. Prayer cannot always work..they need physical labor to help them
I agree, we should send more and more people down there to help them.
ReplyDeleteI agree I feel like we should help Hati more because they are very poor. I also, think that we should help Hati, with the supplies they need.
ReplyDeleteMike D I agree with your comment because Hati does really need support. I also, feel like they do need more than just supplies, they need people to care for them.
